CARC WSPR Competition Update 18-Feb-2016

18th February 2016 By Crawley ARC Leave a Comment

Below is the latest output from my analysis of the WSPR competition.

The good news is that I have added some code to help the adjudicator determine the number of times a station was observed at a particular power. The method I used is a little scruffy, as you can see by the spurious word “Counter” in the output. I will work on that a bit later.

I did have a problem this morning which resulted in a corruption of my observers file, and in fixing it I had to re-enter a lot of the callsigns again. The result seems to be that we now have two fewer countries being reported. I do not know if the error was is in this version of the table, or was in the previous version.

Also I suspect that my approach I was using does not put the US stations in the correct zone, I think it just puts them in the zone that the call belongs to. Correcting this is a huge task, and I am open to suggestion as to a simple way to do this (or a volunteer to do it the hard way). My advice for the future is instead of using CQWW zones, use a metric based on Maidenhead squares at some suitable degree of aggregation since that can be determined directly from the WSPR spots file, leaving much simpler problem of assigning callsigns to entities.
